Earlier today, the news first revealed that former NCIS star Cote de Pablo is coming back to CBS, this time as an executive producer for the in-house project MIA alongside Michael Weatherly. While this project is currently in the development phase — there is no guarantee that it makes it on the air at all — we do still think that there’s something to be excited about here.

What we also think is that this project could potentially open the door for more of Cote again on other CBS shows, even if a NCIS return remains a longshot.

One of the big issues that is still out there for Cote to appear on NCIS is that you need both the story necessary to bring her back, and preferably, you also need another appearance from Michael Weatherly as Tony. It’s hard to do that when you consider that he is a regular over on Bull and it doesn’t film in the same city. Given that the two shows shoot at the same time, the only time where we could theoretically see something work is at the end of the year for a finale — provided that NCIS does more episodes this season than Bull does.

We think at the moment that a Bull appearance is a little bit likelier, mostly because that’s where the Weatherly connection is and now that we’re three seasons in, you can bring Cote on board without it just feeling like it is just trying to recreate NCIS. Also, we actually think that there is a larger reason to bring her on board now in that it’s great promotion for the new project — especially in the event that she does end up appearing on it in a significant on-camera role.

Ultimately, there’s plenty of time for all of this to be figured out — if it happens, that is.
